Children need more care and attention in their growing age. Their minds should be trained in the best possible way. Being empathetic means to show an ability to understand also, it means to share the emotions of one another. We will discuss some of the ways that will help you to make your child more empathetic.
It is important to know about the happy, sad, excited, disappointed, or surprised moods of your child. Your child may be able to express exactly what he is feeling, so it becomes necessary to understand them first. It becomes necessary at times to become your child’s friend.
Educate your child about feelings and how you handle them on a daily basis as a part of life. You can share your happy or sad feelings with them. So, this would help them in being more empathetic as they could relate their feelings with your shared experiences.
Children imagine being an adult just by looking at you or their elders. They try to imitate it. So, it would help you if you do good empathetic deeds in front of them. It could be forgiving someone for their mistake or helping someone in need.
A family meeting or a friends gathering would help. Get involved with your child in meetings and encourage them to come up with their opinions and ideas. Also, listen to them carefully and ask them to listen to other’s perspectives as well.
It helps your child to understand better when you discuss things with them instead of just ordering them every time. Talk about ethical problems and provide them with possible solutions.
Help your children to learn that it is not always doing for others but also to do with others. Make them understand that by being together, we can respond to association problems. Unity always helps us to overcome difficult situations.
Show your child how others feel about our acts of unkindness. Being cruel may hurt someone’s emotions and this is not a sign of empathy. We should be kind and soft-hearted with others.
It helps your child to understand the situations better and know where to show empathy. We learn more by someone’s actions and that is especially the case with children. It is important for them to know that the world around us is kind and good.
There are different other things that might help your child to be more empathetic. We have tried covering a few of them here as a guide to parents and hope this will help you deal with your children in a better way. Encouraging children to talk freely about their feelings; teaching them nonverbal cues; using media and books to practice empathy are all the ways that could help a child understand better and share the emotions of another.
