Learning things and forgetting them is common among all whether it is a student or an adult. Most of the things you learn in school automatically go to the recycle bin of the brain, especially math skills. Mathematics has been a tricky subject since the beginning but without mathematics the world cannot function.
As a student, you can get back the things stored in the recycle bin of your brain. Adults handle mathematical problems in various ways everyday such as calculating prices of the products they buy, measuring groceries or other ingredients, calculating time, petrol prices, distance and many more. Using mathematics in everyday life is important to work well. Math is very much similar to reading. In reading, if you have no idea how to pronounce a sound then you won’t be able to read. Similarly, in Mathematics if you do not know how to learn the sequence to proceed to the next then you won’t be able to solve the questions. In math, every chapter is interlinked with each other which means that if a student is good in the previous chapter, then they can solve the questions or understand the concept of the next chapter clearly. Mathematics follows a sequence when it comes to its logic.
Here are some techniques and pointers which will help the students to boost up and get better grades in mathematics:
It is the most essential and important way to boost up your skills in math. Though it might appear simple, it holds a substantial amount of value in every aspect. For instance if a student is solving algebraic problems but he or she struggles with addition and subtraction of positive and negative numbers then they leave this lesson out of frustration and think that they can understand it in the next lesson.
Everything in mathematics follows a sequence. Similarly, addition and subtraction of negative and positive numbers and algebraic equations are interlinked with each other. If the student leaves the chapter of addition and subtraction of positive and negative numbers then they will not be able to solve the algebraic problems. Therefore, in order to understand algebra, students need to understand the previous lessons linked with the current one better.
If the students face difficulty while solving the problems of previous lessons then they should continuously work hard for it and with the help of their parents, teachers and other study materials to work perfectly fine and understand the chapters.
Solving example questions plays a vital role in boosting math skills. Working on the questions that are solved in the book and cross- checking the answers will help the students to know the things or methods that they are missing out so that they could work on it again and understand the concept in a better manner.
It also helps the students to understand how one type of problem can be solved in a specific way that they can use. As the level of lessons keeps on increasing, so the questions. Working on dozens and dozens of questions from examples will help you to get a master in that specific lesson before moving onto the other. It will help you to build confidence and help to know whether the student is ready to move on to the next chapter or not.
Most of the students try to draw the solution of problems into their head before writing anything down. For example: Algebra. Students see the problems of algebra and solve it in their head before solving it in their notebooks. They are tempted to solve the equations in their head by just taking a glance at the problems, which decrease their efficiency in mathematics.
The correct way to solve problems is by jotting down the problems and solving them step by step so that the students understand the concepts and methods in a better way and boost their math skills. This gives the students the right to break the problem in hunks and recheck that the methods and steps they used are right and legal or not.
There are many distractions such as television, music and others which can divert the students from the path to achieve great in math. While one is studying, they should stay away from distractions and find a quiet corner in their home to focus on studies. Studying in quiet can make your brain work more efficiently and increases the focus.
While the students are studying quietly, they should ensure that they have everything which they will need while studying such as pens, pencils, books and other things so that they won’t have to get up in between to search for things. If they do not find any place then they can go to the library or school to focus on studies as studying in quiet will help them to work efficiently with full concentration.
Studying till late night is a fashion and convenience for today’s students but this decreases their efficiency to solve problems. The concentration level at night is the lowest which will not help them to understand things in mathematics.
Sometimes the students might look for ways to solve questions for hours and when they finally find the answer, they will feel sleepy and leave the problems unsolved. The sleepy behaviour or inattentiveness can make them make silly mistakes which they realize later. So it is better to study in the morning or evening rather than solving problems at night which decreases their level instead of boosting their skills.
These are some methods that will help the students to boost and brush up their math skills. Working hard everyday is necessary to achieve clarity in mathematics as math might be a tricky subject but understanding its concepts and methods will make it easy for the students to increase their efficiency in the subject.
