Well, the question remains the same whenever you are about to start learning any new language. The truth is that there’s no right answer to it. For anyone new to a language would find that language difficult but when you can’t a hold of it, you’ll see nothing could be easier than that. The thing is before you decide to learn Spanish, you should know everything about the language.
If you have decided that you are going to learn Spanish, you should not think about how hard or easy it is the language. Instead, you should be worrying about all the aspects you should know about Spanish before you get started with it. So, we have brought some points for you that might show you that Spanish can be easy in some aspects but might be difficult in others.
What makes Spanish easy is that it shares its linguistic roots with English. The similarity between the two works as cognates, which means that there can be words in either language that may sound or look similar, thus, making it easier to understand.
Cognates help to get better in Spanish comprehension quickly. It will help you to listen and read Spanish while making you capable of fluently speaking and even writing it correctly. But remember that is not the case for all words. There can be some tricky words too that might sound similar in English but will have an entirely different meaning in Spanish.
The good news about learning Spanish is that almost half the letters in Spanish are similar in pronunciation as in English. In English, there are random rules for pronunciation but in Spanish, the pronunciation does not change, except in some cases of vowels or combinations. The key is to work more and more on pronunciation and you’ll be able to understand how easy it is and you’ll even gain the confidence of speaking it out loud.
As you start learning Spanish, you’ll find that noun could be either masculine or feminine. Unlike English, there would be nouns for each gender, and you have to do some extra hard work to learn and memorize those words. Most of the time, nouns that end in –o would be used for masculine, and nouns that end with –a would be used for the feminine side. What makes it more difficult is that there are some exceptions too and you have to be aware of them to be able to form right and meaningful sentences.
Grammar is quite easier in English compared to Spanish. In English, there can be limited forms of the verb as it could be in simple present tense or the simple past. But in Spanish, almost every word and verb would have different conjugation in different moods and tenses. Also, in Spanish, you’ll come across different types of personal pronouns that you have to learn and memorize the right way to use them. What makes it all easier are the definite patterns and rules that will help you understand these verbs and pronouns and make you understand their use.
People who learned Spanish consider it as a fluid language as you can easily mold, bend, or squish the language. In English, you can write a particular sentence in just one way but in Spanish, there can be multiple ways to create a sentence. You can use the subject at the start, middle, or even at the end of the sentence. Not only this, but you can also choose to omit the subject to create a sentence and it will still carry meaning. You just have to ensure the sentence makes sense in whichever way you set your subject.
All these points demonstrate that Spanish can be difficult or easy, you just have to give it a try to know. However, adding a new language to your skill set will make your profile strong and will open multiple job opportunities in the future. Any language would be difficult till you are not aware of it. Just put in a little hard work and you’ll master it too.
